we are all citizens

There was a little song I learned when I was little. The gist was, be careful what you see and hear and say because the Father above is looking down in love. He wants his children to fly higher.

I was beyond disappointed in reading a recent FB post in which two sides of an opinion ripped into each other. I would like to propose that we need to especially watch what we say and do for three reasons:

1- Your children are listening. What kind of person are you growing? Do you want them to go to hate and conflict or do you want them to love others and treat others the way they want to be treated. You can’t do both.

2- We are allowing this narrative to divide us. Everyone will have a chance to cast a vote for who they believe should lead us. Real power is controlling ones own behavior to take care of all. Could we all be a little less offended and a little more understanding? Instead of being republican or democrat, how about we choose to be good citizens? If we don’t behave as a team, we will destroy ourselves. It starts with us.

3-Grace. We have been given grace and the choice whether or not to accept it. If you have accepted grace, you should share grace with everyone, especially those who do not agree with you. “agree to disagree” – S Covey. We are all frustrated with the pandemic, change in how we live our lives and many other things beyond our control. Remember the story of throwing the first stone?? John 8:7 (1-11) Google bible gateway and look it up. It’s a good story.

What can you do?

-Cast your vote.

-If you read an ignorant post, pass it by. If you feel the need to be unkind, take a moment to breathe and then see if you can frame your thoughts in a more loving way.

-Take care of a fellow citizen. Go out of your way to be kind to someone who doesn’t think like you. Maybe grab a coffee and have a real discussion. Agree to disagree.

-Spend time counting your blessings. We have so much more that we think we have!

Above all, just be kind.

Blessings,

Lindajean
